I recently read an article in the Economist about Barcelona football club and its rise to being touted as potentially the most successful football club ever, but I think it’s a great display of good leadership and management as a business also.
The article looks into Barcelona’s culture of team building, not one off super stars which is often the case in today’s modern football. Considering it has the best player on the planet in Messi…this cannot be an easy task. It also looks at how it has nurtured and developed its own youngsters into the team. 7-8 of the players in the first team have come through the youth ranks and how it creates a bond with its supporters and sponsors (IE its customers).
I won’t do the injustice of re-iterating the article; I think the original piece is well worth a read.
